Through play, and adult participation and communication, children explore and discover new ideas, skills and concepts. The children are encouraged to become problem solvers and build on prior knowledge through weekly challenges and enhancements. As well as learning through play and child-initiated activities, the children also work closely with the teaching staff engaging in literacy and mathematics adult-directed tasks weekly.
Class R pupils enjoy short daily phonics sessions following the Letters and Sounds Scheme to confidently learn how to read and write to become confident and independent learners ready for Class One. In addition to this, the children engage in a short daily mathematics lesson providing essential life skills. Alongside whole-class Handwriting, Forest Schools, RE, PHSE and Topic lessons.
